4 New Releases coming from Dragon's Domain (10/21/2020)

This week we will be dropping four new CD releases.

The first will be a new Composer Collection—this time it’s a composer who is new to the DRAGON’S DOMAIN catalogue. The album is a 2-CD set featuring scores that were released in the 1980’s on LP, but never on CD.

One is flat-out adventure film score and the other is a noirish detective thriller. Neither film takes place in the USA (though the composer is a Hollywood veteran).

Here are samples of both scores:

Sample #1

Sample #2

The next is release is from the early 1990’s, a rather fun little family comedy with a charming score by the composer that hasn’t been released in any form ever, We’ll have autographed booklets available on this one.

Here is a sample

The third release is a reissue of a classic 1980’s horror score remixed and rebuilt from the ground up with the help of the composer. In our opinion sounds better then ever before. Sorry - no samples on this one because you’d guess it in a second.
Autographed booklets will be available on this one also.

The last is a fantasy-comedy from the mid-1990’s that is pretty obscure, from a favorite composer of ours. The music is just loads of fun and deserves to be heard at long last and.  Autographed booklets will be available on this one.

Here is sample

Hope you enjoy them all!

Q: PHYSICAL vs. DIGITAL: Where do we go?

Q: PHYSICAL vs. DIGITAL: Where do we go?

We’ve been having an ongoing debate here at BSX/Dragon’s Domain about where should we go in terms of our releases. We understand that many long-term collectors would rather have physical CDs as opposed to digital downloads (even if they are provided in higher resolution than a CD, and also contain a digital booklet), we’ve realized the nature and cost of our limited edition albums may suggest a more favorable business model by looking into digital releases.

Here’s where we’d like your input.

While we definitely prefer CDs, a market-wide drop in CD sales and a market-wide increase in international shipping costs have made it very expensive to produce and ship physical media such as CDs. Comparatively, digital releases—including an illustrated digital booklet with original notes—can be produced at a much lesser cost. Some collectors, however, just won’t bite unless it’s a physical product no matter who the composer is and no matter how well known the film or television program is.

Another issue we’ve been considering is focusing on lesser-known projects that might not sell enough to recoup the production costs of a CD, and producing these on a digital basis while continuing to offer CDs of better-known or sought-after soundtracks that would have a better chance of selling in quantities that would likely recoup the production costs.

We’d like to get your feedback on this—where do you think we should go? Your comments will be most welcome and appreciated!

Three New Titles coming this Wednesday from DRAGON’S DOMAIN (9/23/2020)

This week we will be dropping three new CD releases.

The first will be a new Composer Collection that will feature one long score from the early 2000’s by one of our favorite composers that is out of this world.
Here is a music sample

The next is release contains two scores by the same composer that are very much tied together by the subject matter. One score has already been released, so we’re not going to include a sample from that one, but the other score has never seen the light of day and is too delightful for words:
Here is a music sample

The final release for this week is yet another score from the early 2000’s by a composer who has been quite popular with our customer base. It’s not a sci-fi or horror score, but a very delicate and charming effort that deserves to be heard at long last.

Here is a music sample

All three titles (and perhaps a digital only release as well)
should appear early Wednesday

Thank you for your interest!

QUESTION #1: What do you think about our “Composer Collection Series?”

QUESTION #1: What do you think about our “Composer Collection Series?”

One of our goals with this blog is too get feedback from you about our releases.

The “Composer Collection Series” is something that we’re been working on for a number of years now, and it’s allowed us to spotlight lesser-known works by some of our favorite composers—like Mark Snow, Lee Holdridge, Paul Chihara, and Basil Poledouris—as well as composers not as generally well-known, such as Dan Redfeld, Edward David Zeliff, and others.

We’d like to know your reactions to these releases—any general comments about these kinds of releases, and any suggestions as to what artists (not the big ones) that you’d like us to put our attention to.

You can leave your comments and suggestion below, and we assure you we will read them all.

 Thank you!
