After delivering a gorgeous compilation of music by Joe Hisaishi, pianist Joohyun Park turns her attention to a survey of music by John Williams. This new solo piano collection features a variety of memorable themes from throughout the composer’s long career.

Home Alone’s “Somewhere in My Memory” opens the playlist (giving the album its name), and is followed by highlights from John Williams stalwarts like Jurassic Park, The Patriot and Rosewood. Also included is some exquisite, lesser-known material from the likes of Stepmom (“The Days Between”) and A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (“For Always”).

Along those same lines, fans will likely appreciate some of the entries here from Earthquake, The Eiger Sanction, and Cinderella Liberty (“Wednesday Special” ). Perhaps the most unusual programming choice is Not, With My Wife You Don’t (“My Inamorata”), which fits in quite nicely despite its niche appeal. The album closes with the ever popular Olympic Fanfare and Theme, which feels most of out place here, but does bring things to a rousing conclusion.

This compilation features lovely solo piano traversals of Williams’ music, and fits in nicely with similar past releases in this subgenre. For additional information and samples, head to BuySoundtrax’s website. —Steven A. Kennedy
